ONE OF A KIND VINTAGE CHAIN STITCH EMBROIDERY
Sew Be It LDN was founded by textile artist Lucy Bild in 2020 and is run out of her studio in North London.
Lucy specialises in custom & bespoke chain stitch embroidery on vintage and preloved garments. She also creates patches, banners and pennants using this medium. All her embroidery work is produced on a rare antique machine built in 1933. The machine is operated by a freehand crank under the table, no computers involved, everything is done by hand, how embroidery was done prior to computerisation. This means each piece is unique and no two are the same. Think of it like a machine you can draw with, kind of like a tattoo, but with thread!

THE STORY
Lucy is a born and bred East Londoner but now lives in North London. After studying textile design at Middlesex university she chose to focus on chainstitch embroidery as her preferred medium and is completely self taught. It’s a pretty mesmerising process to watch (& listen to) but requires a lot of practise and skill to master. Lucy is also a qualified accountant and works for a creative agency in Clerkenwell. She has produced work in collaboration with a number of artists, brands and fashion designers and often takes influence from music, streetwear, graffiti and tattoos.
